Exploration Starts With Curiosity
Esc@peWithNicki began with a simple idea: sometimes the best way to discover something new is to step outside your everyday world and look a little further.
The name reflects both sides of that journey: Escape With Nicki and eScope With Nicki. The @ connects the two, bringing together the spirit of exploration and the telescopes that opened up a whole new universe of possibilities.
What started with astronomy has grown into something bigger: sharing experiences, encouraging curiosity, and helping others discover just how much there is to explore.
Whether we’re observing the ever-changing Sun, discovering distant galaxies, or introducing someone to their first telescope, the invitation is the same: come explore with me.
Meet Nicki
Exploring the world beyond our own is a passion I discovered more recently. My journey began with a traditional telescope, but discovering electronically assisted astronomy (EAA) opened up a whole new way of experiencing the night sky and reignited my curiosity in ways I never expected.
That curiosity has taken me into astrophotography, experimenting with different telescopes, and a particular fascination with the Sun, our closest star. It’s constantly changing, and every observing session offers something new to discover.
Along the way, I’ve become involved in public outreach through organizations like the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society, the HelioArc Foundation, and the Mobile Earth & Space Observatory.
And somewhere along this journey, Esc@peWithNicki became more than a way to document my own adventures. It became a passion project centered on helping others discover what’s possible for themselves.
Our Why
Everyone deserves to reach for the stars!
The world is bigger than the four walls of our homes, the boundaries of our neighborhoods, and the experiences that shape our everyday lives. Yet it’s easy for what we know and what we’ve experienced to become the limits of what we imagine is possible. Esc@peWithNicki is driven by the belief that everyone deserves opportunities to look beyond those boundaries, discover something unfamiliar, and realize that where they are today doesn’t have to define where they can go tomorrow.
Esc@peWithNicki is about making astronomy, science, and exploration more accessible, especially in underserved communities where opportunities for hands-on experiences may be limited.
I’m particularly passionate about encouraging Black women and girls to see themselves represented in astronomy and exploration. Sometimes seeing someone who looks like you doing something new can open your eyes to possibilities you never considered.
But the goal isn’t to turn everyone into an astronomer or scientist. It’s about giving people the opportunity to try new things, discover what they enjoy, and build confidence in what they can do.
Through outreach, storytelling, and shared experiences, I hope to inspire everyone to step beyond the familiar, embrace curiosity, and discover what’s possible.
